Dr. Kowalsky is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, and a member of the faculty practice at Lenox Hill Hospital on the upper east side of Manhattan. He received his medical training at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, where he also obtained an MBA in Health Management. He then completed orthopaedic surgery internship and residency at Columbia University Medical Center / New York Orthopaedic Hospital. He was honored as the recipient of the Rosamond Kane, MD Award in 2007, the Alexander Garcia, MD Award in 2008, and he served as Administrative Chief Resident during his final year of residency training.

Following residency, Dr. Kowalsky completed two subspecialty fellowships. The first was in sports medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital / Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma. He then received advanced training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the renowned Shoulder and Elbow Service of the Washington University School of Medicine. There, he served as Clinical Instructor, participating in clinical research as well as medical student and resident education.

Through his extensive training, Dr. Kowalsky has developed an expertise in the conservative and operative treatment of upper and lower extremity sports injury, as well as complex shoulder and elbow pathology, including degenerative disease, trauma, and revision surgery. He has a particular interest in the management of shoulder and elbow arthritis, instability, rotator cuff tears, labral injury, as well as knee ligament injury, meniscal tears, and cartilage disorders. He has authored original research manuscripts, review articles, and textbook chapters focusing on AC joint reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, and shoulder replacement. He currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, the newest allopathic medical school in New York in over 40 years.

Dr. Kowalsky has experience in the care of athletes at every level of competition, including students of Columbia University, City College of New York, Hunter College, and Hofstra University. He has provided sports medicine coverage for the Tournament of Champions Squash Tournament and the United States Open Tennis Championship. He has also served as assistant team physician for the New York Jets and the New York Islanders Hockey Club. Dr. Kowalsky is an orthopaedic surgery consultant for New York City Public School Athletic League Rugby, and the Assistant Medical Director of the New York Rugby Club Annual New York 7s Tournament. He currently serves as team physician for Stuyvesant High School and White Plains Rugby Football Club, and for the USA Rugby National Team.

Dr. Kowalsky was raised in Boca Raton, Florida and attended Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale. He then obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy at Dartmouth College. While at Dartmouth, Dr. Kowalsky was a member of the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club first XV, which won the Ivy League, New England Rugby Football Union and Northeast Rugby Union Championships, and was one of sixteen teams to compete in the National Collegiate Rugby Football Championship.
